Updating the DNS of your domain is crucial when you want to point your domain to a new server or service. Below is a simple guide to help you update the DNS on SiteGround.
Step 1: Access Your SiteGround Account
Visit siteground.com and log in to your account using your username and password.
Once logged in, go to the Websites section.
Step 2: Select the Domain You Want to Update
Within the Websites tab, you’ll see a list of all your sites and domains.
Find the domain you wish to update the DNS for and click on Site Tools next to that domain.
Step 3: Navigate to DNS Settings
In the left sidebar, go to the Domain section.
Select DNS Zone Editor.
Step 4: Change the DNS Servers
Inside the DNS Zone Editor, you can view and manage your domain’s DNS records.
If you want to change the DNS servers (e.g., to point to a new hosting provider), click on the Name Servers tab.
Here, you’ll see the current nameservers assigned to your domain.
Step 5: Enter the New DNS Servers
Remove the old nameservers and enter the new ones that have been provided to you.
The nameservers will typically look like:
ns-140.awsdns-17.com
ns-1994.awsdns-57.co.uk
ns-791.awsdns-34.net
ns-1108.awsdns-10.org
After entering the new DNS servers, click Save.
Step 6: Wait for the Changes to Propagate
The propagation of DNS changes may take between 24 to 48 hours. During this time, your website may not be accessible for some users as the changes are being processed.
