“A” records are a type of DNS record that associate a domain with an IP address, pointing the domain or subdomain to a specific server. Modifying these records is essential if you want to change your website’s IP address or set up custom services. Below, we explain the basic steps for modifying “A” records on the most common platforms.
General Steps for Modifying “A” Records
Access your domain management platform account: Visit the provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy, Hostinger, SiteGround, NIC Chile, etc.) and log in with your credentials.
Select your domain: Once logged in, find the section where domains are managed. This is often under names like “My Domains”, “Domain Management”, or “Domains”.
Access DNS settings or DNS Zone: On most platforms, you’ll need to find an option called “DNS Settings”, “DNS Management”, “Zone Editor”, or something similar. This section will allow you to view and modify your domain’s DNS records.
Find the “A” record you want to modify: “A” records are usually listed with the domain name or a “@” symbol representing the root domain. They may also include subdomains like “www”.
Edit the “A” record:
Click on the “A” record you want to modify.
Replace the current IP address with the new IP address you want to point your domain to, which should be Aloha’s IP: 107.20.143.56.
Make sure not to change the record name unless necessary (for example, if you are pointing a specific subdomain).
Save the changes: Click Save, Update, or the equivalent button to apply the changes.
Wait for propagation: Updating “A” records can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours to propagate globally, depending on DNS cache settings.
