Tax Management and Control in Aloha

Updated over a month ago

To manage taxes correctly, it is essential to know who is responsible for paying them: the national guest, the international guest, or both. Having clarity on this information is crucial to setting up taxes accurately in your system.

Step 1 - Access the Tax Configuration Module

To adjust taxes in the platform, go to the Manage System section > Tax Configuration, where you can define specific rules according to current regulations and the characteristics of your guests.

Step 2 - Enable the Tax Module

This section will be disabled by default. Therefore, if you want your reservations to reflect the corresponding tax, you need to enable it. To do so, simply select the Enabled option within the Tax Configuration. This will ensure that taxes are applied correctly to each reservation.

Step 3 - Specify Who Pays the Taxes

Next, you need to specify who will be responsible for paying the taxes: a national guest, an international guest, or both. This configuration is essential to ensure that taxes are applied accurately based on the guest type.

Step 4 - Name the Tax

Once this is done, you must assign a name to the tax. This will help you identify it clearly in the system, e.g., Chile - VAT (Value Added Tax).

Step 5 - Specify the Percentage You Will Charge on Your Reservations

Then, assign the corresponding percentage to the tax. This percentage will be applied to the total amount of the reservation and will appear as an extra charge in the final price breakdown. It is important to ensure that the percentage is correct according to the tax regulations of the country where your establishment operates.

You can verify how the tax will appear on your reservations by selecting the Preview Configuration button.

This will allow you to view how the applied taxes will appear in the reservation breakdown, ensuring everything is set up correctly before it's visible to guests. It's a useful tool to confirm that the tax percentage and its application are working properly.

Step 6 - Do Your Direct Reservations Include Taxes?

If you want your direct bookings (through your website) to include the tax, you need to select the corresponding switch to enable this option.

Alternatively, you can choose to create a rate plan that already includes the tax in the price. This will show the total cost on your direct channel (website) without the tax appearing explicitly in the reservation details, providing the final amount to the guest without specifying the applied tax percentage.
